Job Description: Warehouseman

  1. Introduction
    This standard procedure establishes and describes the duties, authority, and responsibilities of the Warehouseman of Merchandise Recyclers & Liquidators.
  2. Requirements
    1. Education
      Desired: High School Diploma or equivalent
    2. Experience
      1. Forklift and Pallet Jack training. Have the ability of operate a forklift safely and properly.
      2. Preferred: 1 year warehouse experience
    3. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
      1. Ability to read and write.
      2. Ability to work with inventories and price lists.
      3. Ability to do basic mathematical functions: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, and Percent.
    4. Physical
      1. Body positions: Sitting, standing, walking and lifting
      2. Body movements: Walking, stepping over obstacles, bending, and stooping
      3. Lifting: Must be able to safely lift 100 lbs.
      4. Body senses: Must hear well enough to converse on telephone, must see well enough to read reports, prints, etc.
    5. Language
      Must read and write English at High School level.
  3. Working Conditions
    1. All types of working conditions to include all types of weather, fires, and on-site clean-up.
    2. Other challenges as they occur in the normal day-to-day operations of the company.
  4. Authority
    1. To make decisions that pertain to their assigned areas regarding assigned duties.
    2. To instruct Day or Temporary laborers in their areas.
  5. Reporting Relationships
    Warehouseman reports directly to the Warehouse Manager or the manager of the store he has been assigned to.
  6. Responsibilities
    The principal responsibilities of the Warehouseman consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
    1. Receive merchandise.
    2. Completion of receiving log and list. The log will contain the following:
      1. Date stamp (Date received)
      2. Vendor
      3. City shipped from
      4. Type of merchandise
      5. Buyer
      6. Delivered by (Freight company name)
      7. Warehousemanís initials
      8. Quantity, description, cost or price
      Turn this list in to the receiving box on the sales floor.
    3. Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area
    4. Ship Merchandise
    5. Assist customers as needed
    6. Maintain grounds, equipment and the warehouse
  7. Principal Duties
    The principal duties of the Warehouseman shall consist of, but not be limited to, the following:
    1. Unloading trucks quickly and safely using proper equipment.
      1. Count and double-check the count of the merchandise as it is unloaded.
      2. Check for any obvious damage and make a note on the Bill of Lading.
      3. Note any discrepancy of received merchandise on the Bill of Lading.
      4. Note any non-accountable (extra) items on the Bill of Lading.
      5. All discrepancies should be noted on the driverís bills, and must be signed by the driver and the warehouseman.
    2. Shipment of merchandise will include the following:
      1. Obtain the invoice listing the merchandise for shipment.
      2. Pull the merchandise for shipment.
      3. Pack or load the merchandise in a professional manner.
      4. Fill out a packing slip or label when necessary and affix the packing slip to the shipment properly.
      5. Address the merchandise for shipment
      6. Weigh the merchandise for shipment to ensure proper handling by freight carrier.
    3. Assist customers with locating the merchandise that they wish to purchase. Load purchases for the customers whenever possible in a professional manner.
      1. Pull customer orders as needed.
      2. Check customer invoices to verify purchases, pulling and loading orders as needed.
      3. Assist customer to secure purchases only when requested by the customer.
      4. Maintain "Will Call" tickets for all items that are not taken by the customer at the time of purchase.
      5. Maintain all "Will Call" procedures and requirements in their proper area.
  8. Measurement of Performance
    The Warehouseman measurement of performance will be considered by the following:
    1. Timeliness and accuracy of deliveries
    2. Warehouse and outside areas are maintained in a neat, clean, and organized manner
    3. Good level of morale and spirit of teamwork and cooperation within department and with other employees.
    4. Maintenance, security, control, and responsibility of merchandise and equipment.
    5. Other work assigned by the Warehouse Manager has been done in an accurate and timely fashion.
  9. Acknowledgement
    I have reviewed and understand the above job description and believe it to be accurate and complete. I understand that management retains the right to change this job description at any time. I also understand that management may ask me at certain times to perform other duties or assign me other responsibilities than the ones written above.
