Job Description: Warehouse Manager

  1. Introduction
    This standard procedure establishes and describes the basic functions, requirements, authority, responsibilities, duties, and measurement of performance of the Warehouse Manager of Merchandise Recyclers & Liquidators.
  2. Basic Functions
    The basic function of the Warehouse Manager is to take the necessary steps for efficient, accurate and timely receiving and shipping of merchandise for efficient warehouse operations, inventory security and control.
  3. Authority
    1. The Warehouse Manager is granted all the authority required to carry out the responsibilities assigned to this position.
    2. The Warehouse Manager may delegate and assign authority to positions that report to him/her, but retains the ultimate responsibility for all performance criteria pertaining to his department.
    3. Hiring, firing, or disciplining of those individual(s) reporting to him/her. (Consulting with the Operations Manager is required)
  4. Job Requirements
    1. Education
      Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
    2. Experience
      1. Required: Five years experience in a warehouse environment
      2. Preferred: 2 years supervisory experience
    3. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
      1. Must be knowledgeable in all aspects of warehousing.
      2. Must be able to read and understand both technical and financial data.
      3. Need good communications skills, supervisory, and managerial skills.
      4. Some knowledge of computers. Be able to learn and understand the company’s computerized reporting.
    4. Physical Requirement
      1. Body positions: Sitting, standing, bending
      2. Body movements: Will move throughout office, warehouse and stores
      3. Lifting: Must be able to safely lift 100 lbs.
      4. Must be able to operate a forklift truck
    5. Mental Requirement
      1. Mathematics: Must have good knowledge of arithmetic functions: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fraction, decimal. Must be able to understand budgets and forecast
      2. Language: Must be able to speak with and understand Merchandise Recyclers & Liquidators’ customers, management, and personnel reporting to his position.
    6. Working Conditions
      1. 50% Desk function
      2. 50% Working in warehouse
  5. Responsibilities
    1. Ensure that all items are physically verified against the vendor’s Packing List
    2. Ensure that merchandise received is promptly placed in designated location
    3. Ensure that warehouse and outside areas are kept in a clean organized manner
    4. Ensure that aisles are kept clear.
    5. Ensure that all employees under his/her supervision are working under safety standards
    6. Ensure that all orders received are processed according to MRL policies.
    7. Ensure that regular preventive maintenance is performed on schedule on all deliveries and warehouse equipment
    8. Ensure that all employees under him/her follow rules and regulations established by management
    9. Ensure the best delivery method for all orders
  6. Duties
    The duties of the Warehouse Manager at Merchandise Recyclers & Liquidators in carrying out his/her responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    1. Review all orders received from salesperson
    2. Review Packing Lists and Receiving Report before they are processed to A/P
    3. Advise the Operations Manager of any discrepancies in items received
    4. Organize and supervise the physical inventory, as directed by the Operations Manager
    5. Will serve as a resource person to customer and salespersons in matters pertaining to merchandise specifications
    6. Assist warehouse personnel, maintain a satisfactory rate of productivity, minimize unproductive time
    7. Take necessary steps to prevent theft in the warehouse and store area
    8. Conduct regular staff meetings
    9. Maintain morale and teamwork within the department
  7. Measurement of Performance
    1. Timeliness and accuracy of deliveries
    2. Warehouse and outside areas are maintained in a neat, clean and organized manner
    3. Inventories are controlled; accurate physical counts are taken on schedule
    4. Good level of morale, spirit of teamwork and cooperation within department employees
    5. Other work assigned by the Operations Manager has been done in an accurate and timely fashion.
